The Institute for Minority Entrepreneurship is an initiative of the Dublin Institute of Technology. The IME was established to offer specific minority communities in Ireland the opportunity to start their own businesses by providing specially designed training and mentoring services based on up-to-date research.

The primary objective of IME is enable budding entrepreneurs from our target communities overcome specific challenges facing them, thereby allowing them to access mainstream supports to start their own businesses. We aim to bring significant benefit to our target communities by researching the needs of these minority entrepreneurship groups, developing appropriate training programmes and materials, and delivering these programmes in the most effective manner possible for each individual group.

The IME is keen to develop partnerships with other organisations who work with minority communities so that together we can help them achieve their full potential.

'Minority' has been defined by IME to be inclusive of those communities who are generally regarded as being outside of mainstream Irish society in terms of their entrepreneurship activity and who are not directly supported by other mainstream programmes. We currently provide services to a range of communities including

•    Ethnic Groups including people from Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and South America as well as the Muslim Community in Ireland

•    People Over 50

•    Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered People

•    People With Disabilities
